With six CNPL rookies in the fold for the 2024 season, GM Jay Devilliers Montreal Lions got off to a hot start, winning six and losing three. First overall draft pick Ernesto Fajardo debuted with an outstanding 12-6 won-loss mark in all nine matches, copping three Player of the Match awards along the way.
Third overall selection Louis-Charles Amyot had a great tourney, going 13-5 in nine matches and named Player of the Match once, while 11th overall pick Jade Cassandra Laporte was 9-9 with one Player of the Match. Anne-Sophie Courteau (6th overall) was 8-10 with a Player of the Match, while 26th pick Mathieu Morneau and 18th selection Antoaneta Toskova didn’t see any action.
The Lions opened the Eastern Split with a convincing 3-1 victory over the defending champion Toronto United and then ended the tournament with a tight 3-2 triumph against the 4-5 East Toronto Smash.
