East Toronto Smash Start Eastern Split Strong, Fade a Bit En Route to 4-5 Record

Having re-signed three solid Pickleballers from their 2023 squad, things were looking good for the East Toronto Smash going into the Eastern Split. And from the outset, they were good, winning three in a row against Vancouver, the Wolverines, and the Brewers after losing to the Lions in their first game.

Returning to the fold for the 2024 CNPL season are Christina Chin (11-7 in nine matches, two Player of the Match awards), Kim Layton (14-4 in nine matches, two Player of the Match nods) and the always imposing Dalbir Bhandal (7-11 in nine matches). Added to GM Lee Whitwell’s squad are former Rush veteran Nathan Choi (5-13 in nine matches) and 31st overall selection Daiho Ozawa (no games played yet).

Their most complete effort in the Split was a 3-1 defeat of a very competitive Southwestern Ontario Brewers team on day one.
