Recap

Pronghorns Win Key Match Against Formidable Rush

Pronghorns Beat Rush in Thrilling Women’s Doubles Tilt

Looking at the combatants in this game, it was hard to assess just who would win. On the Prairie Pronghorns were formidable veterans Kim Brent and Pam Clarke. On the other were youngsters in the 8th overall pick Alex Walker and 9th selection Casey Rodgers. And wouldn’t you know it, the cagey Pronghorns won, 15-11.

Clarke got things off to a hot start, ripping a crossing shot for a point, but the Rush answered with aplomb, with Rodgers rifling a backhand winner and Walker contributing a nice cross. A Pronghorns unforced error later and the Rush were up 3-1. That was the last time they would lead, as the Pronghorns regained the lead on great shots by both Brent and Clarke, forcing the Rush to a timeout down 7-4.

Before long, the Pronghorns went ahead 10-5 and had the Rush on their heels. However, the Rush mounted counterattacks and pounded shots that eluded the Pronghorns. But the Pronghorns again forced a Rush timeout after a brilliant Clarke set-up made the score 13-10. The Rush would then score on a Pronghorns mistake, however, eventual Player of the Match Brent set the Rush up brilliantly for a net return to end it.

Pronghorns Put Stranglehold on Match with Exciting Men’s Doubles Triumph

One could have called this the “Battle of the Titans.” In a fiery contest with match implications, the Pronghorns Brad Chapman and Matty Stodola stood tall, taking down imposing competitors in the Rush’s Brett Forsythe and Nathan Choi by a score of 15-13.

It was a bit of a wobbly start, with the Pronghorns Stodola driving a cross for a point and then later committing a foot foul to allow the Rush to tie it 2-2. Chapman the smoked an overhand to give the Pronghorns a lead they wouldn’t lose, but not without significant fight from the Rush. Down 7-3 after a Stodola flick hit Forsythe, the Rush forced a Pronghorns timeout after Stodola and Chapman made several unforced errors to trim their lead to 8-7.

The teams would trade points on some great shooting, including a monster Choi overhand winner and a Rush rally to get the score to 12-11 Pronghorns. Yet, the Pronghorns pushed the score to 14-11 freeze, only to be countered by an offensive surge by the Rush and double freeze at 14-13. Forsythe, though, would hand the Pronghorns the victory with a net return two plays later.

Pronghorns Take Match with Stirring Mixed Doubles Victory over Rush

While this pivotal game featured plenty of loud shots and rallies, it ended with a relative whimper. Tasked with delivering a match win, the Pronghorns Brad Chapman and Kim Brent were up to the task, taking down the Rush’s Alex Walker and Brett Forsythe 15-13.

Player of the Match Brent got things off to a roaring start, hitting a nice drop and following with a scintillating backhand for a 2-0 Pronghorns lead. The teams then battled to a 6-6 tie, with Walker accounting for three points on outstanding shots and Chapman hitting a circus-like behind the back shot during one sequence.

The two squads traded points for many sequences, highlighted by a Brent backhand winner and a Forsythe flick for a point, leading to a 12-12 draw and a Pronghorns timeout to regroup.

It worked, as Walker hit the net on an unforced error and Chapman followed it up with a scorching overhand winner to send the game to 14-12 freeze. Brent would go side out to put things at double freeze, but Chapman got serve back with a nice net cord shot. However, as mentioned, things ended quietly when Forsythe hit the Selkirk net off serve.

Rush Launch Huge Comeback to Triumph in Fourth Game

This was a meaningless game, what with the Pronghorns having already won. But, with implications down the road in case of overall tiebreakers, Casey Rodgers and Nathan Choi came through – in a big way. Down 7-4 to the Pronghorns Matty Stodola and Pam Clarke, the Rush would outscore them 11-2 down the stretch to steal the victory.

Stodola and Clarke took it to the Rush in the early going, with an eye to a clean sweep. Both contributed great cross shots, interspersed with a flick and an overhand by Stodola to go up 7-4. Not long after, Clarke swatted a forehand winner and Choi did same for the Rush to tie it 8-8. And it was all Rush from there, with Choi and Rodgers playing great defense and forcing the Pronghorns in four unforced errors. They won it on a monster forehand from a fired-up Choi.
