The Canadian National Pickleball League (CNPL) is thrilled to announce key updates to our 2025 Draft eligibility rules. As the league continues to grow and attract top talent, we are expanding our player pool to include international athletes and players under the age of 18. These changes mark a significant step in CNPL’s mission to showcase the highest level of professional pickleball in Canada.
International Players Now Eligible
For the first time in CNPL history, each team will have the option to draft one international player—but it’s not a requirement. This opens the door for elite players from around the world to compete in the CNPL and elevate the league’s competition level.Important details for international players:
- Pre-Draft Requirement: To be eligible for the draft, international players must either participate in a CNPL Showdown or MiLP event before the draft or have a pro-level contract with a recognized league (MLP, PPA, APP, etc.).
- Visa Responsibility: Teams selecting an international player will be fully responsible for handling all necessary visa requirements.
- Draft Registration: Even if an international player is signed with a professional league, they must register for the draft and pay the required administrative fee through Showpass.
Players Under 18 Now Welcome
In an effort to support the next generation of pickleball stars, the CNPL is now allowing unlimited players under the age of 18 to enter the draft.Requirements for under-18 players:
- Safesport Certification: Any team selecting an underage player must have Safesport certification to ensure a safe and positive environment.
- Parental/Guardian Supervision: A parent or legal guardian must accompany the under-18 player to all CNPL events.
